Hello, Pirates.

People often ask me how to become more involved in our district. Well, lots of opportunity exists and two current options are ripe for engagement.

Our first meeting of the district’s Long-Range Facility Planning Committee was successful on all fronts this past Monday night. More than 80 people attended and learned of future housing developments, school sites and how the district’s tax rate is five cents lower than a 12-district area comparison.

This committee will play a big part in guiding our district’s growth over the next five years. Lots of dedicated people attended this week—and we want even more at our next meeting, Nov. 2. We have room for almost 80 more people in our board room at meeting two. So please, if you are interested in helping develop a project list for our next bond election—and electing co-chairs for the committee—join us.

Meetings are in the CISD Administration Building. Light dinner is served from 6-6:30 p.m. Presentations will follow until 8 p.m. Remaining dates are:

·       Tuesday, Nov. 2

·       Thursday, Nov. 18

·       Monday, Dec. 6

Our VIP (Very Informed Pirate) program is another way you can become more involved in CISD. We are opening the district’s doors to community members with a behind-the-scenes look at day-to-day operations. VIPs visit with the superintendent and school board, and see how our students learn and teachers teach, on a tour of campuses from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Our first two sessions have received top reviews by those who attended. Sign up for our next tour on Nov. 17.

In a community experiencing fast growth, staying informed is key to helping guide the best journey for our students. I invite you all to take an active hand in steering our ship toward the best direction for each of our 5,400—and growing—Pirates.

Pirates forever,

Dr. Wendy Eldredge
