At Crandall ISD, we believe in nurturing creativity, imagination, and self-expression through a strong, standards-based visual arts program for all students—from elementary to high school. Our curriculum is rooted in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Art, ensuring that every student receives a well-rounded and developmentally appropriate arts education.
Our youngest Pirates begin their creative journey with weekly art classes that explore foundational elements of art and design. Students experiment with a variety of materials and techniques while learning to:
Understand the elements of art (line, color, texture, shape, form, space, and value)
Create original artwork based on personal experiences and imagination
Make connections between art, culture, and community
Begin to evaluate and reflect on their own art and the art of others
Aligned with TEKS, our elementary program builds visual literacy and encourages creative confidence in every child.
At the middle school level, students deepen their skills and explore new media while developing a personal artistic voice. Courses focus on:
Developing techniques in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture
Understanding and applying the principles of design
Analyzing and interpreting artwork from various cultures and time periods
Beginning portfolio development and art critiques
Our curriculum continues to align with TEKS standards, supporting students' growing ability to use art for communication, reflection, and creative problem-solving.
Crandall High School offers a comprehensive visual arts program with multiple course pathways that they can choose. Students work toward mastery of technical skills, artistic expression, and portfolio readiness. The curriculum adheres to high school TEKS standards, preparing students for success in both academic and professional art pathways.
Art education supports more than just creativity. It enhances critical thinking, cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, and academic performance. Through every lesson and every grade level, our mission is to empower students to see themselves as artists and creative thinkers with the ability to make a lasting impact.
