At Crandall ISD, the safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority. As part of our comprehensive security model, the district has implemented a Guardian Program, which allows a small number of highly trained staff members to carry a firearm on campus strictly for emergency protective response.
The Guardian Program is authorized by the Crandall ISD Board of Trustees under:
Texas Penal Code §46.03(a)(1)(A)
Texas Education Code §37.0814
Crandall ISD currently designates three trained personnel as Guardians:
Keith Chapman, Executive Director of Emergency Operations
Eric Covington, CISD Security Specialist
Sergio Hernandez, Heartland Middle School Campus Security
These individuals are responsible for:
Protecting students and staff in the event of an immediate threat
Supporting the CISD Police Department in campus safety efforts
Ensuring full compliance with state safety regulations
Daily responsibilities for these staff remain unchanged. Their Guardian assignment only expands their ability to respond if an emergency situation arises.
Guardians are clearly identifiable while on duty. They will:
Wear vests labeled SECURITY (front) and GUARDIAN (back)
Display their name and district identification
Carry written authorization issued by the CISD Board and Superintendent
Every Guardian:
Meets or exceeds all State of Texas training requirements
Completes additional Crandall ISD safety and firearms training
Participates in continuous drills and readiness exercises
Our Guardian Program is closely coordinated with the CISD Police Department to ensure unified and effective emergency response.
