Middle School & High School Course Offerings

Crandall ISD’s Theatre Arts program helps students find their voice, build confidence, and learn the power of storytelling. Rooted in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Theatre, our program provides hands-on, engaging opportunities to develop performance skills, technical theatre knowledge, and a deep appreciation for the dramatic arts.

Middle School Theatre (Grades 6–8)

Middle school students are introduced to the exciting world of theatre through exploratory and foundational courses that include:

  • Theatre I (Intro to Theatre)

    • Basics of acting, voice, and movement

    • Introduction to script reading, theatre history, and stage directions

    • Fun, collaborative activities like skits, pantomime, and improv

    • Emphasis on teamwork, communication, and creative expression

These courses align with TEKS by encouraging self-expression, ensemble collaboration, and exposure to theatre as both an art form and a cultural experience.

High School Theatre (Grades 9–12)

At Crandall High School, students can build on their passion for theatre by choosing from a variety of courses that support growth in both performance and technical aspects of theatre. Learnings in these courses include:

  • Development of acting skills, voice and diction, character development, and scene work

  • Analysis of plays and playwrights, theatre history, and genres

  • Creation of original scripts and monologues

  • Public performances and UIL opportunities

  • Set design, lighting, sound, costumes, props, makeup, and backstage roles

  • Hands-on experience with real productions and theatre technology

  • Emphasis on safety, teamwork, and production management

  • Advanced performance course for students selected by audition

  • Major productions including plays, musicals, and UIL One-Act Play

  • Leadership in production roles and mentorship of younger students

  • High expectations for performance quality, rehearsal etiquette, and professionalism

Why Choose Theatre?

Theatre teaches more than acting — it builds skills for life. Students grow in confidence, communication, creativity, empathy, and collaboration. Our courses are designed to align with the TEKS to ensure every student receives a rigorous, enriching, and standards-based theatre education.
