English as Second Language (ESL)

The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) in Crandall ISD focuses on developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing for English Learners. In addition to English language immersion and sheltered instructional methods in the regular classroom, ESL facilitators may go into the classroom to work with the learner or consult with the teacher.

The regular classroom educators and the ESL teachers collaborate for the success of the child, while teaching grade level curriculum, academically engaging students, and encouraging development of the English language. ESL is offered to Pre-K -12 to qualifying students.

ESL is an intensive English language instruction program provided by ESL certified teachers who are trained in
effective second language acquisition methods. The goal of ESL programs is for English learners to attain full
proficiency in English in order to participate equitably in school. The information below highlights the process of
identifying English learners (ELs). Click the infographic for more information. Spanish version
