Fitnessgram

During the past Texas Legislative session, Senate Bill 530 was passed requiring fitness testing for all students in grades 3 -12. The Texas Education Agency recently selected the Fitnessgram developed by Dr. Kenneth Cooper as the assessment instrument for Texas school children.

The Fitnessgram measures three components of physical fitness: Aerobic Capacity, Body Composition, and Muscular Strength, Endurance and Flexibility. Aerobic Capacity will be measured by a paced run, mile run, or walk test; Body Composition will be measured as Body Mass Index which is a ratio of height and weight; and Muscular Strength/Endurance/Flexibility will include tests which assess abdominal strength, trunk extensor strength/flexibility, upper body strength and back flexibility. Crandall ISD Physical Education/Athletic staff will be administering the fitness test and results will be made available to parents. For further information on the test instrument please go to http://www.fitnessgram.net/. The CISD Physical Educators appreciate your support and patience as they strive to develop "healthy active achievers" in CISD.
