Students at Martin Elementary received a special treat when the First Tee of Greater Dallas stopped by to introduce them to the game of golf. Led by Coaches Chandler Gadis and Brooks Freidas, the session wasn’t just about swings and putts—it was about building character.

"It's to give kids life skills through the game of golf," said Gadis. "Hopefully, we're giving them learning advantages and teaching them how to become staples of the community, all through the game of golf.”

Crandall ISD PE Lead Staci Roof first connected with First Tee at the beginning of the school year, bringing them in for professional development for PE teachers. When she learned that First Tee also offered student demonstrations at no cost, she quickly arranged for them to return.

“Most of my students are only familiar with the basic sports—football, soccer, basketball, and baseball—so I wanted to give them a new experience,” said Roof. “We're always looking for ways to encourage our students to stay active and healthy, and golf is a lifelong sport that many had never tried before.”

Students eagerly participated, answering questions and staying engaged throughout the lesson. Their enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed.

"We brought a lot of prizes to hand out," Gadis said. "If you’re answering questions and engaging, that shows me you’re paying attention—and we reward that.”

First Tee of Greater Dallas will return to Martin for two more visits, ensuring that younger students also had the chance to experience the program.

Through initiatives like these, students aren’t just learning a new sport; they’re gaining valuable life lessons that will serve them well beyond the fairway.
