September 20, 2022

Good evening, families.

Student meals were available at no-cost to CISD families during the pandemic due to government funding. That government flexibility expired when this 2022-23 school year began and school districts must once again charge for student meals, based upon student meal eligibility. Costs for student meals are:

Breakfast (all grades)
Student breakfast: $1.45
Student breakfast reduced: $0.30

Lunch (grades PreK-6)
Student lunch: $2.95
Student lunch reduced: $0.40

Lunch (grades 7-12)
Student lunch: $3.20
Student lunch reduced: $0.40

We understand this is an adjustment, but CISD must collect funding for meals. Effective September 21, any student who has a negative lunch balance of $15 will be offered an alternate meal that meets USDA guidelines. Additionally, students with a negative balance can no longer pay cash at the register for ala carte items—snacks, extra food and drink items, candy, etc.—until their charges are paid.

CISD wants to help and has reached out to families this school year, lending assistance in multiple ways. Families can apply here for financial assistance with free and reduced meals. If you have any questions about your student’s lunch account, please call CISD Food Services at 972-427-6000. Amy Mitchell is ext. 60098 and Tim Davis is ext. 60097.

Thanks,
