TSI Assessment

The TSI Success Initiative is a program mandated by the state of Texas for all Texas public colleges and universities. It is designed to help colleges and universities determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing and math. This program also will help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet your needs to help you become better prepared for college level course work if you are not ready. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment.

TSI Exemptions

There are exemptions from the TSI for graduating seniors entering college.

The exemptions are as follows:

  •     ACT: Composite score of 23 with a minimum of 19 on the English test and or the mathematics test.
  •     SAT: A minimum score of 480 on the Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing test shall be exempt of both reading and writing sections of the TSI Assessment; a minimum score of 530 on the mathematics test shall be exempt for the mathematics section of the TSI assessment.  There is no combined score.

TSI for Dual Credit Students

Crandall High School dual credit students must take and pass the TSI assessment.  Before testing, students must complete a Pre-Assessment Activity.  After completion of the Pre-Assessment Activity, you must print the PAA certificate and turn into the counselor’s office. The Pre-Assessment Activity can be found on the Trinity Valley Community College website. The current cost of the TSI is $15.00.
