Good evening, Pirates.

I will take a note from our reigning state championship Crandall High School cheer team and offer a celebratory shout for Fall weather. Yes, it is raining but we need it. And the cool temperature of the past week looks like it may actually stick around for a bit.

This annual turn of the forecast always brings with it flu season. Numbers are up in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with the Center for Disease Control citing Texas as one of five states experiencing what the agency calls “high levels.” But thanks to some forward thinking by our Health Services Department, we have some good news for our CISD students.

CISD has partnered with SchoolMed Health to help serve every student with on-site healthcare needs. SchoolMed brings convenient, on-demand healthcare to each of our campuses. Some of the benefits:

  • No appointments are needed if a student feels sick at school
  • Parents and guardians can join the visit from anywhere
  • Prescriptions can be called in after consultation, if needed
  • “Excuse notes” are automatically created if the student needs to go home

The program launched at Crandall High School and two elementaries—Dietz and Walker. It is scheduled to roll out to all campuses within the school year. The cost of a visit is dependent on health plans, and SchoolMed works with several providers. Families can register students online.

Take care of your health as the seasons turn, Pirates. Enjoy your weekend.

Pirates forever,

Dr. Wendy Eldredge
CISD Superintendent
