Trustees approve 2023-24 school calendar, shift to nine-week grading periods

The 2023-24 Crandall ISD School Calendar was unanimously approved by Trustees at Monday night’s school board meeting. Input for the calendar was gathered from the District Educational Improvement Committee, a staff survey and review of the calendars from surrounding districts.

One substantial addition includes a new Fall Break for students and staff October 16-20. This is a standalone week for the break, not built into the Fair Day weekend as in years past.

Another significant change is in the grading periods. CISD will move from a six-week grading period to a nine-week grading period next school year. A week-long break follows the conclusion of each nine-week term—Fall Break, Winter Break, Spring Break—culminating with summer vacation.

The transition to a nine-week grading period will affect report card schedules, UIL eligibility calendars and various other programs throughout the district. Information will be shared with families.

• Aug. 15 – First day of school
• Oct. 16-20 – Fall Break
• Dec. 22, 2023-Jan. 9, 2024 – Winter Break
• March 11-15 – Spring Break
• May 22 – CHS Graduation
• May 23 – Last day of school
